Dodge City is a city in the U.S. state of Kansas. Named after nearby Fort Dodge, the city is known for its Wild West history. In the 19th century, it was a draw for cowboys, gunfighters, and gamblers. Today, that history is preserved at the Boot Hill Museum and elsewhere. The city is also home to the United States Army's Fort Riley.


Dodge City Raceway Park

Dodge City Raceway Park is one of the most entertaining places in Dodge City, Kansas. It has a 0.37 mile (0.60 kilometers) oval racing track made up of clay. It was opened in the year 2000 and has hosted many motor-sporting events since then. This venue has a seating capacity of around 4000 people with facilities like Grandstand seating, beer stands, handicapped accessible elevators and modern restrooms. Apart from weekly racing events, many special events are held at this venue too. Moreover, this place also offers fully equipped campgrounds. It is a great place to enjoy a weekend evening with your friends.

Gunfighters Wax Museum

Located on the fifth avenue, Gunfighters Wax Museum is one of the most interesting tourist attractions in Dodge City. The museum features life-size wax statues of several Wild West icons and heroes such as Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, Buffalo Bill, Calamity Jane, and many more. Housed in the same facility as the Kansas Teachers' Hall of Fame, it is a good place to visit.

Boot Hill Museum

The Boot Hill Museum Complex is a must-visit attraction in Dodge City. The place will sweep you back in time of cowboys, in the wild west country. The museum is known for interactive exhibits and artefacts that depict the life in historic Dodge City, way back in the 1800s. Several entertaining and interactive activities are offered here, throughout the year. Named after the Boot Hill cemetery based at the northeast corner of this museum, it is a popular tourist spot in Dodge City.

El Capitan

El Capitan is a beautiful sculpture in Historic Downtown of Dodge City that depicts the legend of a steer who was a part of the Great Western Cattle Trail. The imposing statue of the legendary bull is now located on Wyatt Earp Boulevard, a reminder of Dodge City's past. This impressive bronze sculpture was made by a Arizona based artist named Jasper D'Ambrosi in the year 1980.

Historic Downtown Dodge City

The Historic Downtown of Dodge City covers some of the most popular attractions, restaurants and businesses in the city. It is a place where you can find some unique shops, art museums, souvenirs, and more. Moreover, a plethora of dining options assure some great meals for all. Known to be the heart of the city, a visit to Dodge City will be incomplete without a stroll or a shopping expedition around this area.

Home of Stone - Mueller-Schmidt House

Built in the 1800s, the Mueller-Schmidt House Home of Stone is said to be the oldest house standing on its original site in Dodge City. It features a beautiful façade that is almost-entirely made up of limestone making it one of the only limestone buildings in the city. Today, visitors can see the parlor, kitchen, bedrooms, and the exterior of this house as they were in 1881. Located on a hill-top surrounded by trees, The Home of Stone is still considered to be one of the most beautiful residences in the area.

Historic Santa Fe Depot

Established in the early 1900s, the Historic Santa Fe Depot is located in the Historic Downtown of Dodge City, on East Wyatt Earp Boulevard. Covering an area of about 45,000 square feet (4180.64 square meters), the depot is the largest structure of its kind in Kansas. Exemplifying 19th-century Romanesque architecture, the place also includes two sundials that were used to measure Mountain Standard and Central Standard Times in the bygone era. Visitors can take guided tours of the building, which are available by appointment through the Depot Theater Company.

Dodge City Trail of Fame

Dodge City Trail of Fame is a walking tour through the Old Dodge City National Historic District, much like Hollywood's Walk of Fame. The trail is well-marked with informative plaques and medallions and includes the city's local heroes and legends, such as El Captain, Wyatt Earp, Dennis Weaver and many more. Trail maps of this tour are available at the visitor's center which also marks its starting point.

Wright Park Zoo

Located on the 2nd Avenue, Wright Park Zoo is one of smallest attractions in Dodge City. A home to just two bear cubs initially, this place has over 45 mammals and birds in the present day. These include a friendly group of animals like Llamas, Black-capped Capuchin, Black bears, Emus, Cougars, American bison and many more. Open throughout the week, it is a nice place to enjoy a day picnic with your kids.

Carnegie Center for the Arts

Located in the historic downtown of Dodge City, this unique art center was once an Andrew Carnegie Library. The beautiful building in which the center is housed is an attraction in itself, with its stunning red brick structure dating back to 1907. A round gallery on the second floor of the center regularly displays art exhibitions that range from unique local art to traditional art and more. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Carnegie Center for the Arts makes for an excellent community space to discuss art, culture, and exchange ideas.

Coronado cross

This historic site in Dodge City carries an interesting legend dating back to 1541 that attracts history buffs to its intriguing abode. The Coronado cross is believed to be the place where Francisco Vasquez de Coronado, a Spanish explorer, crossed the Arkansas River, which was then known as the St. Peter & St. Paul River while looking for the legendary cities of gold. During your tour of the town, stop by the towering cross that marks the historic event. The place also offers great views of the picturesque environs of Dodge City.
