Spanned across a an area of 5656 acre (2288.9 hectare), Fair Hill NRMA is a scenic area filled with natural beauty. The facilities here include a turf course and a historic bridge.
This is the place where William Penn and the Native Americans met and exchanged land and friendship, if we go by the legend. Today, on this site, we have the Penn Treaty Park. Overlooking the river and set against the backdrop of the city, this park is an ideal spot to enjoy serenity. It also has special playground for kids, walking trails for joggers and so forth. Established in 1996, Victory Brewing Company is popular throughout the country for such brews as the award-winning Golden Monkey, Headwaters Pale Ale and HopDevil. Founders Ron Barchet and Bill Covaleski honed their brewing skills for close to a decade before taking the plunge to open Victory Brewing. The brewery occupies what was once the Pepperidge Farm factory and also has a large brewpub on site. There's a regularly changing selection of beers on tap all year round, with Victory's flagship beers making a permanent appearance. The food menu is varied and offers everything from hummus and sandwiches to salads and pizzas. Drop by to check out their latest creations or to simply chill out with buddies.
As the largest fully-functioning pipe organ in the world, the Wanamaker Organ has serenaded visitors to the Wanamaker Building with special concerts since 1911. Although ownership of the building has since changed over to Macy's, the organ can still be viewed and heard in all its splendor. The Wanamaker Organ is played at least twice daily Monday through Saturday, so be sure to stop by and hear it in person.
The Library Company of Philadelphia, founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1731, was the first circulating library in America. Today, it is an independent research library with more than a half a million books, graphics and other rare printed items from the 18th and 19th centuries. The Library Company is the only major early American library to survive intact and as such, it provides an interesting example of the book culture of early America. The library has an extensive collection of English and American novels, plays, poems and narratives.
