Located in the heart of downtown Chandler, Oklahoma, the Lincoln County Museum of Pioneer History, founded in 1954, is a local history museum housed in three historic buildings. These buildings are Mascho-Murphy Building at 717 Manvel, former commercial buildings at 719 Manvel, and the Olson-Crain building at 721 Manvel, which serves as the Children’s Historical Resource Center. Visitors can tour these buildings that boast an extensive collection of historic artifacts, old photographs, newspaper clippings, and genealogy records of the families that lived in the regions since before the 1900s. There are artifacts that belong to Native American tribes of the region.
Housed in the Chandler Armory, a gorgeous art deco building that was built in 1937 and added to the U.S National Register of Historic Places in 1992, the Route 66 Interpretive Center allows visitors to learn more about the story behind the construction of the highway. Made of red sandstone and boasting French fixtures, the building was the base of numerous artilleries, battalions, and infantry divisions before turning into the museum of the history of Route 66 that it is now. Besides browsing through the physical exhibits, one can also enjoy watching light and sound installations that will take you on an immersive experience of cruising down a highway in a car. Bell Cow Lake is a popular recreation spot in Chandler, Oklahoma. Featuring a massive reservoir spread over 1,153 acres (4,670,000 square meters) and a 1,000 square feet (93 square meters) recreational area that offers activities such as boating, fishing, swimming, camping, picnicking, and horseback riding.
