When it comes to great beer paired with excellent food, there's few who can come close to Iron Hill in the city. A recipient of numerous awards for its brews, Iron Hill does not rest on its drink laurels alone and sets the bar with a food menu comprising of an exceptional selection of American favorites. The diversity and the amount of choices available will prove to be a pleasant surprise for foodies who've always had a gripe about the attention given to food at proper places to drink. The full menu features great selection in everything from starters and entrees to pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and even desserts. There's a kids menu as well as a selection of healthy choices. The Blue Crab Grill

Located a little away from the Newark's city center, The Blue Crab Grill is a tempting affair for seafood lovers with a varied menu of specialties from the sea. Everything from mussels and oysters to lobsters and crabs of course is well represented on the menu. The little menu of seafood pastas is worth a try as are the seafood platters. To accompany your food is an excellent selection of wines chosen carefully to pair with the seafood flavors. For a little more diversity, head to the bar that has a superb selection of local beers, microbrews and wines. The interiors are done up in fairly muted colors, but feature great use of woods for a warm effect. Seafood artwork and memorabilia adorn the otherwise blank walls. McGlynns Pub

The first of the two acclaimed McGlynns to open in Newark, the pub sits at the site of the historic Drummond Ale House and has seen the changing face of the city since its inception in 1983. Expectedly, it has a special place in the hearts of the locals who've made it their hangout of choice for everything from game days to simply chilling out with friends. On offer is a stunning array of beers (about 50) and other spirits to keep things flowing and an above average menu of American favorites that is hard to resist. The bar area is designed to encourage socialization and is great if you're on your own. Television screens strewn across the pub ensures that you get a glimpse of the game no matter where you're seated. McGlynns Pub

A quintessential public house, McGlynns was first established in 1983 within the Polly Drummond shopping center. It's popularity has grown manifold since and has resulted in two more locations. McGlynns' second location stands within the Peoples Plaza and like the original location, boasts of a fairly large area. The stuff on offer essentially remains the same; an excellent beer selection and hearty American food to go with it. There's close to 50 varieties of beer on offer including the signature Taylors Grog brewed specially for this and a handful of more pubs. There's a good selection of wine and other spirits as well. The food menu is surprisingly diverse for a pub and features everything from the usual pub grub to hearty lunch specials and elaborate preparations. There's a small selection of kids specialties as well. An array of television screens throughout the pub ensures large crowds on game days. Grotto Pizza

Frequented by college students and a lively younger crowd, Grotto's is the place to head to for cheap drinks and a generous slice. Popular with a regular set of customers, mainly twenty-somethings, especially on weekends, the place features a sports bar, game room and a casual, noisy, fun atmosphere. A good place to head to with a group of friends on a Friday night when you're looking for a night out that won't hurt your pockets, the bar can get quite crowded especially on game nights. The bar is conveniently open late every night of the week perfect for when you're craving a slice of their typically greasy pizza. Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant

Established in 1994, the Iron Hill brewery at Wilmington was one of the first to open in the series of this award-winning brewery restaurant chain. Beer enthusiasts need no introduction to their stellar array of handcrafted beers that have stood against some of the best in the region. From Belgian Ales to Lagers, each of their brews has a distinct flavor that is bound to please most tastes. Though beer is admittedly in focus here, the food to go with your brews is surprisingly well thought-of.
