Mooresville Brick Church

Defining the quaint historic landscape of Mooresville, the Mooresville Brick Church stands tall on the quiet Lauderdale Street. Built in 1839, the church is steeped in history, having witnessed Mooresville thrive in the 19th Century and flourish into a charming tourist town today. Visitors can marvel at the handmade yet peculiarly symmetrical red bricks of the Greek Revival structure, which features stucco columns, five elegant chandeliers, and elaborate pilasters. With its stunning architecture and old-world charm, Mooresville Brick Church looks beautiful against the backdrop of Mooresville's blissful landscape.

Courthouse Square

The Courthouse Square, fondly called the "Square," highlights the rich historical background of Alabama's second oldest city. The square is punctuated by a magnificent limestone courthouse that came into existence in 1919; it showcases Neoclassical and Palladian architectural styles. What surrounds the historical Courthouse is a commercial district that houses various buildings with historical significance. You will find a number of garment shops, ice cream parlors, dining areas with varying cuisines, and a lot of outdoor activities for kids. The square is often an important venue for art exhibitions, storytelling events, and much more. A day spent at the square is a day well spent.

Houston Memorial Library and Museum

Houston Memorial Library and Museum is a former house of Governor George Smith Houston, which today stands tall, boasting Federal-style architecture. Built in 1835, the historic house was donated to the city by the Houston family in 1938 as a library. The two-story house features antique furnishings, displays, and an old library. Visitors are welcome to tour the house and get inspired.

Donnell House

The imposing Gothic Revival architecture of Donnell House is a wonderful place to start a historic tour around Athens. Built in 1840 for a church by Robert Donnell, a minister-the historic site passed on to many hands before serving as a house museum as well as an event space. Guided tours are organized. Call ahead for a visit.

Maple Hill Cemetery

The burial site of numerous Confederate soldiers, the Maple Hill Cemetery holds historical significance for residents of Huntsville. One of the oldest and largest in the city, the cemetery is also the burial site of many of America’s notable personalities, such as governors of state, senators, representatives, and military figures. This rich history of the cemetery paved the way for the Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll, an annual tradition wherein residents come dressed in period costumes and celebrate the lives of the departed. Replete with traditional music, performances, special exhibits, and even scavenger hunts, the event draws crowds from far away.

Space Shuttle Pathfinder

Made up steel and wood, this Space Shuttle test stimulator is called the Space Shuttle Orbiter Pathfinder. Originally the shuttle was built at the Marshall Space Flight Center, the Shuttle was used for checking on the roadway clearances, cranne capabilities, etc. Currently standing as a storage thats rooting into history, the shuttle camt to be known after the 'Great Space Shuttle Exposition'. It is a great place to visit and known the beauty and it's history.
