Lake Placid Olympic Museum is dedicated to the only North American city to host the Winter Olympics twice. The museum goes into the history of winter sporting in Lake Placid and how it has developed into the greatest winter sport training area in the world. See artifacts and memorabilia, like Jack Shea's skates or Sonja Henie's costumes. There is also a large section devoted to the "Miracle on Ice" where the USA beat the Soviet Union on the hockey rink.

Featuring a series of exhibits and records that are preserved to retell historic details of Lake Placid, this history museum is located in the center of the town. Housed in the historic train station, Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society History Museum was opened to the public in 1967. Built in 1866, this place served as a residence for author Robert Louis Stevenson in the 19th century. It is a one and a half story L-shaped structure based on a fieldstone foundation with wood-frame siding. It was converted into a cure cottage, a place dedicated for the treatment of tuberculosis patients in NYC in those days. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places today, this site operates as a museum showcasing the legendary author’s memorabilia.
