Hat Works Museum

Stockport was the undisputed center of Northern England's hatters trade in the Victorian era. The Stockport Hat Museum is a major local attraction and an educational resource that reflects its importance to the local community. Located in a refurbished, converted mill close to Stockport town center, you can see restored machinery, interactive displays and new exhibits at the Stockport Hat Works Museum. Workshops, hat making demonstrations and hands-on sessions are among the activities offered where you can dress up as an apprentice or try your hand at making felt. There is also a small gift shop and a pleasant cafe offering hot and cold snacks throughout the day.

Cuckooland Museum

Imagine a room full of antique cuckoo clocks ringing at you. That is what the Cuckooland Museum is about. It holds a wonderful collection of ancient cuckoo clocks and exhibits over 300 years of clock-making history. Set up in 1990, the earliest exhibit of the museum dates back to the 18th Century. With over 600 clocks on display, it houses all varieties of cuckoo clocks made in the country. Some of the pieces are rarities with no replicas found across the globe. The museum is a trip down the memory lane for the old and a learning experience for the young.

Rostherne Mere

Rostherne Mere is a serene sight in the Cheshire region. One of the largest meres of Cheshire, this natural stream is a part of the northern edge of the Rostherne village, from which it gets the name. A prime site of wildlife, the lake is a designated National Nature Reserve. It is also a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest. Surrounded by thick layers of sedimentary remains of molten glaciers, the lake is the hub of tufted ducks, teals, pochard and goldeneye, among other bird species. One can also see numerous butterfly species in and around the Rostherne Mere. The surrounding woodland is home to birch and oak trees.

Lud's Church

Legendary tales surround Lud’s Church of Staffordshire. Referred commonly to as Ludchurch, it is a wide gap that pierces Millstone Grit on Gradbach. Located amidst the Back Forest woods, the structure is about 100 meters (328.1 feet) long and some 18 meters (59.1 feet) deep. Surrounded by moss and overgrown shrubs, Lud’s Church is created by Carboniferous sandstone. It is often shrouded in mystery and has been popular as a hiding place for many legendary figures like Robin Hood and Friar Truck.

Longdendale Trail

A linear cycling and walking trail following the scenic Longdendale valley, Longdendale Trail follows the course of the old rail line which was shut down in the year 1981. The traffic on A628 notwithstanding, this trail boasts of a picturesque route navigating across the Woodhead and Torside reservoirs. On its path, you can also explore the scenic high moors on both sides. Longdendale Trail features even surface and flat gradients which makes it extremely popular with cyclists and families.

Longdendale

A picturesque valley, Longdendale is dominated by coniferous trees. These were primarily planted to provide shelter to the grazing animals as well as to maintain a smooth flow of the banks of the reservoirs. Longdendale's plant life echoes the region's geology. Earlier, the area was covered with birch and oak woodlands. However, farmers began clearing these woodlands to graze cattle and for agriculture purposes. Moors surrounding Longdendale support different wildlife, including mountain hare populations. Longdendale Trail follows the path of a defunct rail line, now popular with horse riders, cyclists and walkers.
