Phil's Burrow

Situated close to Barclay Square in Punxsutawney, Phil's Burrow is home to Phil, the groundhog. Visitors can walk along Phil’s Burrow and watch Phil and his family moving about in a temperature-controlled indoor space. The annual Punxsutawney Groundhog Festival is held here in this town every year. Phil is known to predict the length of winter through a series of ceremonies that are held at the festival. Phil, the groundhog has been mentioned in several films and series like Groundhog Day, Stanley and more.

Punxsutawney Area Community Center

Founded in 1997, Punxsutawney Area Community Center is located in a former high school that was built in the 1930s. The aim of this facility is to be the nave for all recreational and cultural purposes for the neighborhood. Offering various services and programs for all ages, it features a fitness zone, theater, auditorium and meeting rooms. Their SilversSneakers is specifically designed for those above the age of 50 years to encourage physical activity among the seniors.

Punxsutawney

Punxsutawney was named after the legend of a groundhog who steps out of his burrow on February 2nd each year. If it is cloudy, he will leave the burrow signifying that winter's on its way out, but if it's sunny, and he sees his own shadow, he will retreat back causing people to believe that winter will be extended for another six weeks. The town was immortalized in Hollywood's history with the release of the Bill Murray film, Groundhog Day which was based on this legend. Visitors stop by Punxsutawney during other parts of the year too for its charming heritage, architecture and vibrant arts scene. Popular attractions include The Gobbler's Knob Visitor Center, Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center, and Phil's Burrow.

Coolspring Power Museum

The Coolspring Power Museum boasts an amazing collection of machines made from iron that were used during the infamous World Wars and in devastating oil fields. While most of them were sold as scrap by the owners, others were preserved and now find their way into this heritage museum. The museum staff are knowledgeable and know how to operate every machine throughout. A visit here promises to be exciting.

The Marshall House

The Thomas Marshall House is located at Dayton, Pennsylvania. This house was constructed around 1865 C.E -1868 C.E and there was an extension made to this house in the year 1881 C.E. The house had a Georgian style of architecture. It got listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places on April 22, 1976.

Also known as the Sutton-Elkin House, this building is located on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Built in the year 1868, it has a Late Victorian Italianate style architecture.
