Whether you like your Java straight-up or padded with pastries, this very down-to-earth, artsy coffee shop is the place to visit for your evening fill-up of coffee, espresso or cappuccino. From the art on the walls to the disco couch in the back room, Crimson Moon Coffee House is a great place for lingering. Most Fridays, there's a small percussion band in the back room. Otherwise, Koko, the owner, mixes great hip-hop tapes.
The Philadelphia Clef Club of the Performing Arts was formed in 1966, the first jazz art institution in the city. Its list of members included jazz greats, such as John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Shirley Scott and Nina Simone, to name a few. Presently Clef Club promotes jazz talents focusing on instrumentalists. It also promotes educational programs, such as the Youth Summer Jazz Camps and the Preservation Jazz Series. You can also stop by to check out a number of shows at the club, ranging from comedy to theater and of course jazz!
