Wagner Free Institute of Science
"Natural History Museum"
This natural history museum was founded in 1855 and does not look as if it has changed since. The specimens are displayed in their original Victorian cases. Many of the exhibits, such as skeletal remains and geologic finds, deal with Darwin's theory of natural selection as the topic was beginning to become accepted near the time of the Wagner's founding. Adult educational courses on the natural sciences and museum lessons for school children are free. Guided tours are available by appointment. Admission is free.
