Eastern State Penitentiary

Formerly the largest prison facility in America, the Eastern State Penitentiary is now Philadelphia’s major tourist attraction. What was once the most expensive prison in the country now stands in ruins, but that does not stop curious tourists from visiting the attraction. A first-of-its-kind, the penitentiary implemented previously unheard ideas of incarceration, which prioritized reformation over punishment. National Constitution Center

The National Constitution Center is dedicated to the research and education of the United States Constitution among the masses. Explore their interactive exhibitions, view the replica of the Emancipation Proclamation and acquaint yourself with the American War of Independence. Betsy Ross House

The legend of how Betsy Ross created the first American flag may lack proper historical evidence, but it remains an integral part of early American history. Her house offers insight into Colonial life. Betsy Ross mainly used this abode to rent rooms to travelers and wayfarers. According to the Philadelphia Historic Society, more people visit the Ross house than any other historical attraction. The house is located in Old City adjacent to many shopping and eating destinations.

Benjamin Franklin Museum

Dedicated to one of the most beloved Founding Fathers of America, The Benjamin Franklin Museum in the Old City is located at Franklin Court in Old City. The museum features several artifacts and exhibits that chronicle various aspects of Franklin’s life. A part of the Independence National Historical Park, the place includes a steel-structure that stands just as and where his original house and print shop used to be. Interactive, computer-based displays which chronicle Franklin's legacy are included in the collection here which add to the educational value of the site.
