Ouray is a small scenic city situated in and the largest among the others in Ouray County. The city was built by miners who wandered off in the San Juan mountains in search of gold and silver mines in the 19th Century. After the boom in the mining business, the city soon flourished with the addition of new-age facilities and a municipality to govern. People often refer to Ouray as the 'Switzerland of America' due to its cold climate, majestic mountains, beautiful scenery, and alpine forestation. A treasure trove of scenic wonders, Ouray is home to the beautiful Box Canyon Falls, Cascade Falls and the historic Ouray Hot Springs which has many pools.
