Home to the famous Stoney family was this majestic mansion that was later deserted. Today it is known as Baynard Plantation Ruins. The site consists of four ruins- the main house, a slave house, an overseer’s house, and a fourth structure that was built after the Battle of Port Royal during the Civil War. Northern State Hospital

Sedro-Woolley is home to a desolate site of an old farmland, once home to the infamous Northern State Mental Hospital. Built in 1909, the hospital was a self-sustaining facility that operated a lumber mill, dairy barns, pastures, a bakery, and a library. Throughout its operational years, Northern State Mental Hospital was known for mistreating thousands of inmates, many of whom were misdiagnosed often inside its dark, dull, and dreary buildings. It is believed that the spirits of the tormented inmates still reside within the abandoned structures, as attested by many visitors who claim to sight otherworldly apparitions. The site is also home to an old cemetery with unmarked graves.

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum took 23 years to be built, and it is the largest stone-cut structure in North America and comes second to the Kremlin.
