Few people can actually believe that the city of Abilene had its origins as a humble stage coach shop owned by Timothy Hershey in 1857. Years later, a maverick settler called Joseph McCoy arrived here with his brood of livestock thus bringing on the nickname of Cow Town to Abilene. Some absolute must-visits are the Great Plains Theatre built in 1881 and the Greyhound Hall of Fame which arouses those interested in gray hound racing. Fort Scott is a city and the county seat of Bourbon County in Kansas. Founded in the 1850s, Fort Scott is home to the Fort Scott National Historic Site, which attracts history buffs to its fascinating abode. Downtown Fort Scott is a beautiful mélange of historic buildings, architectural gems, quirky antique shops, cozy eateries, and much more.
