Spread across 8000 square feet(743.22 square meters), this Hands On Winery is among the new wave of DIY winemakers. The brainchild of Kenton and Kathy Nice who are behind Coda Rossa Winery, you can join other wine enthusiasts and make your own label. Using only fresh grapes, this winery offers two seasons in wine-making every year. Fall is for Californian wines while spring is Chilean wines. The entire process is divided into four different sessions, each going up to two hours. From crushing to pressing, barreling and then bottling, you will learn the art of wine-making at this place. Feel like a professional as you use licensed winery tools and Italian wine presses. Sample wines before you start making your own. The prices vary as it all depends upon the quantity and variety of wine. Definitely an experience not to be missed.
The Speaker's house first belonged to the eldest son of the founder of Trappe, John Schrack who lived at this stone style structure until his death in 1772. Later, this house was purchased by the then member of the Congress and first President judge called Frederick Muhlenberg. After the Muhlenbery family, there were several people who resided at this site.This house museum is lined with several exhibits, crockery and other items of the families who resided in the house. You can also visit the store and the probable kitchen. This landmark can be visited only via appointment.
Built somewhere towards the end of the 17th Century and beginning of 18th Century, Lawrence Cabin was the abode of Henry Lawrence, an early settler and Welsh Quaker. Five generations of the Lawrence family stayed at this cabin till 1942. It is reminiscent of English, Swedish, Welsh and Finnish log cabin designs and was also known for sometime as the Three Generation House as two other buildings were added to the cabin. It was originally set by the Darby Creek but was moved to its present site for preservation. Now owned by the Haverford Township Historical Society, educational tours and open house tours are provided to give an insight of the colonial times and early settlement.
The Highlands Mansion and Gardens is a beautiful Georgian period house that is beautifully restored to provide a glimpse of the lives of the people who lived there during the 17th to the 19th century. Besides the historic house, visitors can visit the outbuildings, gardens, barn, spring house and other areas of the property. This beautiful mansion can be visited only during the week for which a prior appointment is required.
