This is the place where William Penn and the Native Americans met and exchanged land and friendship, if we go by the legend. Today, on this site, we have the Penn Treaty Park. Architect James H. Windrim designed Smith Memorial Playground in 1899 as per the wills of Richard and Sara Smith. Located in Fairmount Park, the place is regarded as one of the best playgrounds in Philadelphia. Spread over 6.5 acres (2.63 hectares), the playground welcomes over 1,000 kids every day. Featuring several activities that are conducive for physiological, behavioral and social development of the children, Smith Memorial Playground provides several opportunities for creative, unstructured play. The place also includes an adorable playhouse that caters to kids younger than 5 years of age. Often sought for private events such as birthday parties, Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse is a true local gem.
James G Atkinson Memorial Park is one of the largest recreational parks in the little city of Sewell. The 66-acre (26.7 hectare) recreational park features a wide range of facilities like walking and biking trails, softball and basketball courts, an amphitheater, picnic areas and a children's playground that make a hit amongst locals and tourists alike. This is also the venue for a number of important events and festivals including the Summer Concert Series.
The Memorial Field was built to commemorate firefighters and other martyrs who lost their lives trying to fight the act of terrorism during the 9/11 World Trade Center attack. The park features four multi-purpose fields. These field can be used to play sports like field hockey, soccer, football and lacrosse.
The Spruce Street Harbor Park is one of the best in the city and is located along the Delaware River.
