Al Nuovo Antico Pavone was renovated and relocated a few years ago (hence the name nuovo - new). It is situated on Trieste's shore and offers excellent service and one of the best fish menus in the whole of the city. There is a room which is separate from the rest of the restaurant with space for ten people, this can be booked for business dinners or special occasions. The restaurant has a small terrace with around 30 places, however it faces onto quite a busy road, even in the evening. In reality you just get used to it, certain delicacies can make you forget everything else. You should try the tagliolini with mullet roe and the pappardelle with langoustine and arugula. For the second course do not miss out on the turbot with lemon. The crème brulée is extraordinary, the wine list pretty good. To sum it all up, you will go home feeling very satisfied, and the extra cash you may have spent will be worth it.

You would never think it but this small gelateria (not far from the train station, on a busy, noisy road) is the best in the city. The lines at the counter and the dozens of cars parked haphazardly in front of the shop, (especially in the evening because the wardens will rarely turn a blind eye in the daytime) are proof of this. Here the gelato is really extraordinary, the fruit of decades of experience, and great attention paid to detail in the production process. When you try these gelato you will not be disappointed. Specialties include the mascarpone, and the puffed rice gelato which you can never have enough of, and will find nowhere else but here. The tarts and cream horns are also good.

TNT is probably the first sandwich shop to have started up in Trieste. It is on one of the most chaotic streets in the city and it is difficult to park nearby. It is open until late in the evening and it is the perfect place to go for a snack after going to the cinema or theatre. Although the decor is a little dated, it is cozy and slightly rustic giving it a friendly atmosphere. There are around 45 covers. The shop has offered home delivery for some time, guaranteeing the quick delivery of hot food and drink anywhere in the city. There is a wide choice of beers: seven different types on tap and around 50 different bottles. As well as the enormous selection of sandwiches and buffet food you can also enjoy delicious salads

Buffet Birreria Rudy is settled in the center of Trieste, just a few steps away from Piazza Oberdan. The interior mirrors a typical Bavarian pub, with wooden furniture and a refined style. This place is very attentive to the quality of its beers, many of which come from Germany: you can find pale ales, double malted beer or stouts. Furthermore, Buffet Birreria Rudy easily matches all these different beers with typical dishes of the Triestine tradition; for example, the Vienna, or sausage with sauerkraut. Often, in this friendly pub, you can listen to live rock music, giving the pub a real Oktoberfest atmosphere.

Trattoria al Faro is located at the foot of the imposing Vittoria Lighthouse, facing the gulf, and is the place to try some good seafood dishes and excellent wines. This eatery has great business, mainly due to the desirable location and the resoluteness of the owner. Now the restaurant has become one of the most highly appreciated places to spend the evening for people of all ages. The terrace is splendid with great views! The interior is rather less inspiring, having remained the same as it always was. The restaurant is perfect for birthday parties, wedding receptions and christening parties and is also open at lunchtime. Situated on the Friuli road which leads up to Trieste's high plains, it takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the restaurant by car from the city center, and therefore abounds in parking space. The service is friendly and the dishes are simple, even including some old local specialties. The wine cellar is very well-stocked to complement the delightful fare!

This is one of the city's marvels, a temple of gastronomy, a monument, a point of reference: it would be a sin not to eat here if you are in Trieste. The atmosphere is refined, the service praiseworthy. Inside, there is seating for more than 100, and more in the garden. The cuisine is central European with local and modern influences. The food is cooked with the use of fresh, local ingredients and plated with utmost thoughtfulness. The wine list offers everything and prices are reasonable.
