The Smugglers’ Notch State Park is located at an elevation of 2,119 feet (646 meters) and houses a narrow path called the Smugglers Notch Pass that goes through thousand-foot cliffs. The state park is named after this path which was used for smuggling from Canada during the early 1800s. There are also lots of picnic spots where you can lay back and soak up the lovely atmosphere. Featuring a towering peak and a ridge-line draped in the rare alpine tundra, Mount Mansfield has earned the reputation of being the tallest mountain in Vermont, elevating at about 4,395 feet (1,340 meters). The surrounding forests are tinged with vibrancy and color, and the vast variety of picturesque trails winding through the sloping inclines of Mansfield are exhilarating, albeit challenging. An interesting feature of the mountain is its resemblance to a human face when viewed from a distance, and striking cliffs hedge the northeastern section of Mansfield.
