Castello di Miramare was the home of Maximilian until he was forced to leave and become the Emperor of Mexico. The next resident, Duke Amedeo of Savoy, made Castello di Miramare the seat for various military commands. In 1955, it was transformed into a museum. The castle still has the original furniture commissioned by Maximilian. There is a chapel; the Japanese and Chinese rooms, rich in oriental ornaments; and the apartments where the Duke of Savoy lived. Miramare is set in an extraordinary park, which extends over 54 acres (21.8 hectares). Guided tours are available upon request.

Built by the architect, Matteo Pertsch in 1801, the Teatro Verdi underwent a radical renovation program which has renewed it to its original splendor after 1997. It compares well with the interior which is full of gold and velvet. One look takes you straight back to the annals of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. The neoclassical decor outside the theater is obviously inspired by La Scala in Milan. The theater has now returned to a full program each season which contains opera, symphony concerts, and ballet. It is now one of the most prestigious musical venues in Italy and in the world. An evening of Verdi music is something which is not to be missed for music lovers. Even if you do not particularly appreciate this type of music, it is worth having a stop at the theater.

Together with the Verdi, Il Rossetti is one of the two theaters that have remained from the five that, at the beginning of the century, livened up Trieste's daily and cultural life. Home of the local theater company for the Friuli-Venezia-Giulia region, Il Rossetti is the most beautiful and imposing building in the locality. Built-in 1878 and named after the humanist, Domenico Rossetti, the theater remains an important point of reference for locals of all ages. In the city that boasts of the greatest number of theater lovers in Italy, buying season tickets for the Rossetti's shows is a habit that can not be broken. The theater has radically renewed its program in recent years, alternating traditional shows with more innovative works, even holding the occasional easy listening concert. Located within this magnificent edifice are two smaller theaters- Sala Bartoli and Politeama Rossetti that host exclusive plays meant for a smaller audience.

Comprising twin concert halls, art gallery and a state-of-the art multimedia center, Mostovna is 'the' place to visit for entertainment. The cultural center hosts a number of local and European artists/ bands on tour, who give out some stellar musical performances for one and all. Apart from concerts, the center also hosts art exhibitions, fashion shows and a plethora of other events that are bound to leave you spell-bounded. With the bands like Agalloch, Tortorum, Blacklodge and Horna have already performed here, you can expect gigs of similar bands at Mostovna.

Teatro Miela was founded by the Bonawentura foundation, which continues to manage the theater today. The Miela is the only theater in Trieste which offers a program of contemporary arts including theater, music, cinema and figurative works. It also produces its own work on a number of evenings. The rest of the time, it gets involved with other projects: from school concerts to ethnic music concerts. The auditorium is vaguely postmodern in design. It was built out of an old cinema which had previously been converted to a gym for the dock workers. Nowadays it provides a meeting place for cinema-lovers and art enthusiasts from Trieste and elsewhere.

The park of Via San Michele is located on San Giusto hill, close to the Cathedral and the Castle. Originally a Roman possession, it became property of the town hall in 1771, which soon converted it into a park, though the current look was created by Selad Cooperative. This park is the perfect place to let children run and play on the wooden playground and breathe fresh air. Via San Michele Park sits on two levels, with stairs that follow the perimeter of the park. While on a walk, you can stop on a bench and enjoy the amazing view of the sea. There are flower beds, a little waterfall and fountain, a huge tree and room for romantic walks under the trees. During the day the park is often animated with theater spectacles and games for children, while at night, mostly in summer, there are movies and concerts.
